Solar Energy at Konica Minolta: Harnessing the Power of the Sun

This year, Konica Minolta Business Solutions will install a 839.5kw system, consisting of 3,498 240-watt solar panels at our Headquarters in Ramsey, NJ, exemplifying the Konica Minolta commitment to environmental health and sustainability.

How does solar energy work?

• The sun produces vast amounts of energy through nuclear fusion; enough in a single minute to meet
the world's energy needs for an entire year!
• Solar panels are comprised of a number of solar cells.  Light is absorbed by solar cells and converted
into electrical energy; a process that generates direct current (DC) electricity.
• An inverter converts DC electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity, which is the form used by
consumers to power appliances, light fixtures and more.

How does solar energy benefit the environment?

By installing solar panels, Konica Minolta is accomplishing three very important steps on the route to a cleaner planet.

  • Conservation of non-renewable resources
  • Reducing and eliminating contributions to air pollution and climate change
  • Lowering the amount of battery waste

Solar Power at Konica Minolta

Amazingly, the Sun's ultra-violet rays make it to solar panels even on cloudy days, making this solar initiative a cost-effective - as well as compassionate - investment. Our new solar panels are warranted for 25 years, with a life expectancy of 40 years or more.  Each solar module weighs about 42 lbs., and the full 3,498 will be installed over a 5-month period.
