Solar Energy At Konica Minolta

Project Sunway

In 2013 Konica Minolta Business Solutions installed a 967,000 kWh solar energy system, consisting of 3,498 240-watt solar panels at our Headquarters in Ramsey, NJ, exemplifying the Konica Minolta commitment to environmental health and sustainability.

Solar Energy at Konica Minolta: Harnessing the Power of the Sun

Based on standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the amount of solar energy Konica Minolta's system will produce annually is enough to power 84 homes or offset the greenhouse gas emissions produced by 132 passenger vehicles.

Konica Minolta takes its role as a responsible corporate citizen very seriously and is constantly exploring new ways to protect the Earth's natural environment. Striving to create products and conduct business practices with the future of the planet in mind - Konica Minolta aims to lower its carbon footprint and reduce dependencies on fossil fuels to ensure a sustainable planet for future generations.

Our Solar Energy Dashboard is a great way to find up-to-date information about energy savings throughout the project. Easy-to-understand panels display energy saved in terms of trees and homes.

Solar Power at Konica Minolta

Amazingly, the Sun's ultra-violet rays make it to solar panels even on cloudy days, making this solar initiative a cost-effective - as well as compassionate - investment. Our new solar panels are warranted for 25 years, with a life expectancy of 40 years or more. Each solar module weighs about 42 lbs., and the full 3,498 was installed over a 5-month period. Running at full capacity the system produces approximately percent of the energy usage at our Ramsey facility.

How does solar energy work?

• The sun produces vast amounts of energy through nuclear fusion; enough in a single minute to
meet the world's energy needs for an entire year!
• Solar panels are comprised of a number of solar cells.  Light is absorbed by solar cells and
converted into electrical energy; a process that generates direct current (DC) electricity.
• An inverter converts DC electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity, which is the form
used by consumers to power appliances, light fixtures and more.

How does solar energy benefit the environment?

By installing solar panels, Konica Minolta is accomplishing three very important steps on the route to a cleaner planet.

  • Conservation of non-renewable resources
  • Reducing and eliminating contributions to air pollution and climate change
  • Lowering the amount of battery waste
