Move Beyond Just Printing Wide With The AccurioWide

September 19, 2019

“Necessity is the mother of invention” is an old saying based on the Greek philosophy of Plato.  And the saying is just as relevant today as it was all those years ago.

In 2018, Konica Minolta launched our first wide-format printing product at Print 18 Tradeshow in Chicago and a few weeks later at Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s (SGIA) Expo in Las Vegas. The press, analysts and attendees were all extremely impressed with our new offering, the AccurioWide series. A great deal of my career has been focused on the wide-format business and I was not surprised with their reaction. The AccurioWide is an outstanding product. However, what I did not anticipate is how unbelievably flexible the product turned out to be and the numerous variety of uses our customers would find it capable of handling.

The AccurioWide 200 and 160 are hybrid wide-format printers accepting both roll-fed and rigid media allowing for a number of conventional and unconventional applications. In addition, the UV LED curing inks dry quickly and adhere permanently to a whole host of substrates. The product was designed for traditional sign and display print applications. Projects like point of purchase banners, advertising and signage, as well as some niche applications including printing directly to aluminum di-bond metal or wood for specialty projects.

Conventional to Unconventional

Since its release, our clients have really put the AccurioWide to use in some more unconventional ways. Because the UV LED Inks print on most substrates without an adhesion promoter and the bed will accept media nearly two inches thick, our customers are inventing new applications for the AccurioWide. This creative thinking and curiosity to use a product outside of its original intended purpose has broadened their portfolio of clients, leading to more jobs and increased profits.

Some creative uses include printing:

  • Wallpaper
  • Mylar pouches
  • Floor Mats
  • Tchotchkes
  • Textured imitation wood
  • Fine art prints
  • Decorated ceramic tiles

This is in addition to more traditional projects that include printing:

  • Signs and displays
  • Acrylic backlit panels
  • Flexible banners
  • Point of purchase displays

One of our customers even built a jig to print colorfully designed stethoscopes for a children’s hospital. Another is printing graphics for slot machines!

What will you print next?

The AccurioWide products can be used to print in so many conventional and unconventional application areas, but beyond its flexibility, it still boasts outstanding print quality, with a large color gamut and superior color vibrancy. It is capable of printing up to 1440 x 720 dpi print resolutions allowing for exceptional image quality, holding print type sizes as small as 6 points or 4 points knock-out. And so, it is capable of printing large and small projects. The uses for this product are only limited by your imagination and willingness to invent new ways to capitalize on the product’s flexibility.
