MFP Apps Streamline Productivity & Offer Convenient Access

bizhubmarketplaceThe idea of installing apps to customize electronics has quickly spread from mobile devices and personal tablets, to broader categories of technologies including office equipment.

Printers aren’t newcomers to the world of apps.  Mobile printing technology such as Konica Minolta’s PageScope Mobile – which could be considered a type of “app” – has been around for a while, but the innovation and popularity of touchscreen control panels has permitted further expansion of apps for printers.

Launched in January of 2013, Konica Minolta’s bizhub MarketPlace aims to deliver a more personalized MFP experience to customers.  Offering a wide range of options to enhance performance, the bizhub MarketPlace features apps that fall into two main categories – value-add apps that drive productivity, and apps that offer convenient access to desired information.

An example of a value-add app is Connect to Microsoft SharePoint.  This easy-to-use app gives users one-touch access to cloud storage from the bizhub MFP control panel. An example of a “nice to have” app in the bizhub MarketPlace is the Announcement app. With this app, users can customize the MFP control panel to display a corporate ad or announcement. The ad then appears as a screensaver on the MFP when not in use, so that it doesn’t interfere with normal work.  The Announcement app constitutes nearly 30 percent of the downloads from the bizhub MarketPlace, making it one of Konica Minolta’s hottest app to date.

To date, more than 1200 bizhub MFPs have bizhub MarketPlace apps installed via the award-winning INFO-Palette design control panel.  We continue to launch a new app nearly every month that offers either business productivity benefits or convenient access to users.  We have also started to receive requests for apps from customers that further drive our innovation – so keep them coming!
