KMBS U.S.A. Introduces Product Level Color Printer/Copier

Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. introduces production level color printer/copier

Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc.'s new color printer/copier/scanner, the Konica Minolta DiALTA Color CF5001, is designed specifically for environments with high volume output needs such as commercial printers, print shops and corporate in-house design centers. This 50-page-per-minute (ppm) color printer/copier is built to withstand the demands of production environments while providing a wide range of capabilities such as booklet making, folding, and handling oversized-paper and thick paper. All these features combine to create a production color solution that offers increased reliability, greater versatility, lower operating costs, outstanding image quality and best of all, the most competitive price in the market.
"We know the demands of high volume color production environments. For instance, there are tight deadlines and small distribution windows. Plus the documents often need extra finishing steps, such as hole punching, folding, or covers," says Dino Pagliarello, product marketing manager - Color MFP, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc.  "The CF5001 meets these needs. Starting with its solid construction and its small footprint, it is designed to succeed in production environments. Users will love its convenience features such as the ability to add toner on the fly and auto registration, which ensures correct copy placement on double-sided documents."

Speed, Construction and Output Quality

The CF5001 produces full color, letter-sized pages at 50 ppm, and maintains this high level of productivity even when producing two-sided output. Meeting the need for professional color output, the CF5001 features 600 x 600 dpi and 256 gradations of color per pixel.

To withstand the demands of production environments, the CF5001 is built using metal parts for most of its internal components. These parts are designed to last longer throughout long runs without compromising print quality. As a result, Konica Minolta has rated the CF5001 able to handle up to 150,000 impressions per month.

Print and copy quality are as stable as the construction of the CF5001. To ensure that the first print looks just as sharp the last, the CF5001 performs automatic color calibration during warm up and after every 1,000 impressions. In addition to being stable, the output quality is brilliant. The CF5001 uses Polymerized Toner Technology, with smaller particles for enhanced image quality. Polymerized Toner Technology eliminates the need for fuser oil, expands the types of paper that the CF5001 can support and offers customers a choice in output -- matte or glossy finish.

Powerful Paper Handling

Adding to its versatility and productivity in a color production environment, the CF5001 handles up to 110 lb. index paper in all of its paper trays and can handle up to 140 lb. index paper from the bypass and Large Capacity Cassette (LCT).  Not only does the CF5001 support thicker paper, but it can produce full bleed 12" x 18" images on 13" x 19.2" paper from any paper tray. For customers who have hard copy reproduction needs, the standard document feeder can handle up to 100-sheets and paper that is up to 110 lb. index in weight. To keep production runs moving, the CF5001 has a standard paper capacity of 1,750 sheets and a maximum paper capacity of 4,250 sheets. With all these options, the CF5001 meets the needs of the most unique jobs imaginable from ad agency presentations to high volume production runs.

Document Finishing and Options

The CF5001 offers two modular finishing options:  a Staple Finisher and a Booklet Finisher. The Staple Finisher allows customers to multiposition staple, sort, and group documents. The Booklet Finisher has all of these capabilities plus the ability to tri-fold, make booklets (saddle stitching) and insert preprinted or blank covers (the cover inserter is also available as an option for the Staple Finisher). Customers may add a 2- or 3-hole punch option to either finisher, while the trimming unit is available as an option for the Booklet Finisher only. Other options include a copier memory upgrade for added functionality, such as additional page memory and a Hard Disk Drive, which enables image overlay, stamping and watermarks.

Powerful Print Controller

The CF5001 offers the best in terms of connectivity with the optional Fiery(r) S300 50C-K controller, from Electronics for Imaging (EFI). This powerful Pentium 4, 2GHz controller allows users to connect the CF5001 to any network environment. The controller features many of EFI's well-known tools such as ColorWise(r) 3.0, Fiery Scan(tm) 5, Fiery WebTools(tm), Fiery NetWise(tm), Job Monitor, EFI Command Workstation(tm) and Fiery Driver(tm) 2. There are also several options for the Fiery S300 50-CK, including a 512MB memory upgrade, calibration tools and software packages such as a Graphic Arts Package and DocBuilder Pro.

Convenient Color Scanning

With the addition of the print controller, the CF5001 supports color scanning of original documents up to 11" x 17" in size. Once scanned, documents may be e-mailed, sent to an FTP site or saved to a hard drive. For maximum flexibility, scans may be saved as JPEG, TIFF or PDF files.

Konica Minolta's PageScope Provides Document Processing and Network Management Functions

When customers add a controller to the CF5001 they receive PageScope, Konica Minolta's powerful family of integrated software applications and utilities that help customers manage their documents and devices.

The CF5001 supports the optional PageScope Cabinet Pro. This software is a personal document management application that enables users to display scanned documents in thumbnail form, group related documents, and use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to perform full text search for information - even on documents scanned with a Konica Minolta multifunctional device. OCR also converts image files to editable text or RTF files -- so information can be edited, annotated, updated or even incorporated into new documents.

Another available option is PageScope Router, an easy-to-use application that acts as a powerful document distribution system. PageScope Router automatically transfers all scanned hard-copy documents to predetermined destinations on a network. It also adjusts image quality and converts file formats on the fly.

Availability and Price

The CF5001 is now available from authorized Konica Minolta dealers nationwide. The suggested retail price is $35,900.  The Fiery S300 50C-K Controller has a suggested retail price of $23,000.
