High-speed Inkjet: More than just Direct Mail

February 18, 2020

When many people think of high-speed inkjet, they think about production speeds ideally suited for direct mail and transactional documents. But today’s high-speed inkjet technology is capable of a lot more than that.

Posters and calendars: Color quality, versatility of substrates, and the larger sheet size of digital B2+ inkjet presses make posters and calendars ideal projects for this technology.

Books and book covers: Inkjet presses featuring wide sheet sizes and automatic duplex printing functions means books and book jackets — and even photo books — can be created quickly, easily and professionally.

Variable print data for postcards/direct mail: With digital technology, you can create personalized printing pieces, including transactional and transpromotional pieces, track responses and more.

Flyers, menus, greeting cards: Print on thin or thick paper stocks, coating and textured, for unique and durable flyers, menus and greeting cards.

Food applications: Wide substrate options, including synthetic substrates, open the door to a wide variety of packaging. Some inkjet presses, like the Konica Minolta’s 29” AccurioJet KM-1, is also FDA-approved for non-direct food contact.

Commercial: Inkjet presses that feature the B2+ sheet size can open up new opportunities including three-panel and four-panel brochures, pocket folders, posters, point-of-purchase graphics and narrow format signage. A wide range of substrates, like textured and art papers, enables outstanding creative flexibility.

Presentations and Packaging: Launch into new markets with the ability to print on a wide variety of substrates – up to 0.6mm in simplex and 0.45mm in duplex printing modes.

Labels: Print on self-adhesive substrates and tap into the wide variety of label markets.

Synthetic: Use the UV design of the press to take advantage of non-porous substrates like PVC, Teslin, Tyvek, PET and other synthetics, as well as other non-traditional substrates like foil, linen and canvas, and stone paper.

Konica Minolta’s 29” AccurioJet KM-1 can do all of these applications — and more. It is designed with features that take the target applications beyond what we typically expect for high-speed inkjet:

  • Specially developed UV inks enable printing on non-porous and synthetic substrates.
  • Variable droplet at 1200 x 1200 dpi with a technology creates zero dot gain, resulting in incredibly sharp images you would not expect from inkjet.
  • Color gamut is 68% wider than offset, enabling you to hit even hard-to-match PMS colors with four-color process.
  • B2+ substrate handling enables larger format projects, giving you 20% more productivity than competitive presses.
  • Press handles substrates up to .6mm thick, broadening the range of potential applications into packaging and signage.

If you think you knew inkjet applications, the KM-1 should make you think again. If you can dream it, the KM-1 can probably print it—economically.
